Overview
We delivered a CAT6a data cabling solution for a school who had just secured a grant to improve their Wi-Fi infrastructure. The client is part of a school trust upgrading their Wi-Fi cabling infrastructure to CAT6a; this also included Wi-Fi Access Point installation. A new fibre had to be run from the main communication cabinet to an external modular building for a remote cabinet.
Client aim
To remove unnecessary cabling and replace it with upgraded CAT6a cabling and the installation of 23 x Access Points.

- Work within an agreed time frame.
- DBS checked.
- All cables to be hidden.
- Tested and Certified.
- Fixed cost with no estimates.
Challenges they faced
- Needed a trusted and competent partner.
- The project needing to be delivered within a specific time period.
Special considerations
Shorter working hours due to school holidays and having to collaborate with the school’s offsite IT partner to make sure all equipment was up and running before leaving site.
Services we delivered
- Data cabling – the CAT6a infrastructure is used to support the Wireless Access Points.
- Cabinet upgrade – Upgrade existing cabinet where necessary to cater for new deeper PoE switches.
- Fibre optics – Running an OM4 4-Core fibre cable to an external modular building and cabinet; it was important to make sure the fibre was hidden.
- Wi-Fi installation – 23 x Wi-Fi Access Points were installed across the school.
- Smart hands support – we unboxed their IT kit, captured the mac address and serial numbers and labelled all their kit. Then followed their topology guide and provide them with an as fit diagram so they knew exactly how their hardware was set up.
- Racking and stacking – install new hardware in the cabinets to support the wi-fi. Adhere to their cabinet layout and labelling system to aid with future support and maintenance.
